7 Ways to Boost Your Fertility

Posted on September 15, 2017 by NYRW

Trying to conceive is an exciting time for most couples, but it can also become frustrating quickly if you feel like you aren't making any progress. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to boost your fertility and increase your chances of conception.

1. Reduce your intake of caffeine.

According to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, increased intake of caffeine is associated with a decreased rate of conception. Reducing the amount of caffeine you consume may help you to get pregnant faster.

2. Get plenty of sleep.

Failing to get enough sleep may decrease your fertility. Make sure you get 7-8 hours of restful sleep each night to maximize your chances of conceiving.

3. Practice good oral hygiene.

According to a study published in Annals of Medical & Health Sciences Research, periodontal disease is associated with a longer time to conception. This means that unhealthy teeth and gums could make it harder for you to get pregnant quickly. Be sure to practice good oral hygiene and visit the dentist for regular checkups to keep your mouth healthy.

4. Reduce your stress levels.

High levels of emotional stress can interfere with ovulation, making it harder for you and your partner to conceive. Take steps to reduce or eliminate emotional stress to boost your fertility.

5. Maintain a healthy weight.

Being either underweight or overweight may make it harder for you to conceive. Maintain a healthy weight to give yourself the best chance of getting pregnant quickly.

6. Increase the frequency and quality of ovulation with ovulation induction.

If you aren't ovulating regularly, or if you are producing low-quality eggs, ovulation induction may improve your chances of conception. This treatment involves the use of medications and/or hormones to improve ovulation.

7. Consider medical intervention.

If you are unable to conceive on your own and you aren't a good candidate for ovulation induction, or if you've already tried this option without success, you may need a more invasive infertility treatment. The most common treatments recommended include IUI and IVF. IUI, which is also called "artificial insemination," involves depositing sperm directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation. IVF, on the other hand, involves harvesting mature eggs, joining them with sperm outside of the body, and depositing a developing embryo back into the uterus.
